After weeks of deliberation, Australia's parliament has finally passed the world's first unique law that would allow companies such as Google and Facebook to pay local journalists and broadcasters.
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, the Australian Parliament passed a new law on February 25, after which companies such as Google and Facebook will now provide compensation to Australian journalists. The Australian government announced the legislation late last year, after which Google and Facebook threatened to shut down operations in Australia, but Google later agreed to compensate the media. But Facebook violated the rules by banning the sharing and publication of all kinds of journalistic material in Australia on February 17.
